A thing I made

Every ad that’s won anything in the last sixty years, sorted by what the idea actually does. I built it because I was sick of pretending I’d seen them all.

adnauseum.ai: It’s not stealing if they put it in an award annual. 44,297 ads that won, matched to whatever you’re working on. A field to drop your brief in.

Every archive of award-winning work is sorted the way the shows sort it — by year, by category, by who entered. Which is useless at four in the afternoon with a brief in front of you, because the one thing you want to search by is the one thing nobody records: what the idea actually does. adnauseum is sorted by that.

How it works

You put a brief in. It hands back the closest ideas that already won.

01

The brief

This is the site’s own worked example: a brief to advertise dental floss. The brief as the client wrote it, then the brief as adnauseum read it.

“Dental floss. Everyone tells the dentist they floss. Nobody does, and the dentist can tell. They brush, feel done, and can’t face two more minutes before bed. Nothing bad happens for years. Get the packet in the drawer used up. No tooth with a face.”
The brief
The brief as adnauseum reads it: dental floss. The insight: everyone tells the dentist they floss; nobody does, and the dentist can tell. The full read folds away underneath.

02

The closest ideas to your brief

Not an answer, and not a concept with your client’s logo on it. The ads in the archive that came at a problem like yours, closest first, each one filed under the move it made — so you can see a route has legs before you spend a week on it. What you do with them is still your problem.

The closest ideas to the brief, closest first, each tagged with its move: UNIASSELVI’s Scholarship in Books, Surf Life Saving Queensland’s Life-Fi, Dreams Inc.’s 30SOAP, Truth’s #CATmageddon, Lifebuoy’s Jump Pump and Head & Shoulders’ The Chase.

03

Every ad, filed by move

It is for the people who already know the work. The archive does not explain the joke, rank the agencies or tell you what won in Cannes this year. It reduces 44,297 ads to the idea and then gets out of the way.

Three moves from the archive, each with the ads that use it: make the number physical, let the ad prove it, find the accidental lookalike.

Go and have a look.

It is live, and it will take you about eleven seconds to work out whether it is for you. AdNews wrote it up, if you’d rather hear it from someone else.
