How do you make sure your beer remains truly independent?
By declaring independence.
Multinational buyouts had left Australian beer with tap contracts and supply deals that would make the Monopoly man blush. So Bridge Road seceded from Australia and founded the Republic of New Brewland. On a shoestring, it was picked up by international trade press, racked up 250,000 social impressions and made founder Ben Kraus the belle of the ball at Good Beer Week 2019.
Independence was declared at a secession party at the brewery in Beechworth, with a flag and a national anthem by Cameron Bird of Architecture in Helsinki. Australia has not responded.
