The first McDonald's in the world dreamed up entirely by kids.
Hong Kong schooling leans hard on the practical: maths, science, violin practice. We wanted to remind parents their kids have a creative side too, so we let the kids design a McDonald's. After a mass callout, we gutted the Megabox store in Kowloon Bay and had custom fabricators build 22 of the best ideas, including the 'Deep-Sea Bookcase' and the 'Rainbow Dinosaur Arch', neither of which is in the McDonald's design manual.
Kids sent in thousands of ideas, on placemats in store and through an online portal. Primary school art teachers started building lessons around it.
After the opening, the pieces were auctioned off, all proceeds to Ronald McDonald House.
